All Band Musicians Welcome!
No dues or minimum commitment required, just an interest in making music and
continuing a proud tradition
All band players, from aspiring to retiring, are invited to play with the Grafton Cornet Band. Please come to any of our rehearsals. Bring a friend or two.
The Grafton Cornet Band--now in its 142nd consecutive year--welcomes all to our series of free summer concerts. Check out our schedule. Our Sunday concerts start at 5:30 to give you time to listen before supper or before heading back down the Interstate.
We play traditional band music as we have since John Philip Sousa was 13 years old. You can read about our history. Our concerts are informal, so bring chairs or a blanket and maybe a picnic.
Visiting Vermont this summer? Bring
your instrument and read along with us! (It's fun and we welcome
the help.) To fit in, wear a white shirt and dark blue pants or a reasonable facsimile. We may be
able to lend you an instrument and white shirt. Just show up at any concert in
Grafton. You can contact Dan Axtell (802-387-4145, dan @
danaxtell . com) for more information.
Getting to Grafton is a pleasant trip. Get off I-91 at exit 5, follow the signs to Rte 121 and follow Rte 121 west for 12 miles. If the State Highway turns to dirt, you went just a little too far.
The summer 2002 Vermont Life Magazine has an article on the band! (It's a follow-up of our article in the spring 1951 issue.)

The Grafton Cornet Band grudgingly salutes the St. Johnsbury Band, 3rd oldest continuous band in the country. They're the reason we're not the oldest continuous band in the state. However, we've had our current name the longest--and the oldest continuous community band website in Vermont (1995).
